Title: CA 2016-4 REQUEST FOR A CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS TO REPLACE THE CIVIC CENTER BALLOT BOX WITH A LARGER MORE SECURE BALLOT BOX. The Cowlitz County Elections division has replaced all ballot boxes in the county except the civic center ballot box, to meet current best practices for security of ballots cast in the County. The existing ballot box was installed in 2008 and was custom fabricated to match the mail boxes adjacent as a condition of approval for installation in the Civic Center Historic District. Since that time, the RA Long Park Master Plan was completed and the first recommendation to move the mail boxes and ballot box out of the "Monticello Hotel/Broadway St visual corridor" have been completed. The boxes are no longer the first thing seen when looking toward the Monticello Hotel. The attached application explains the need for this change in receptacles. RA Long Park is individually listed on the Longview Register of Historic Places. UPDATE: Attached proposal presents the research done by Elections to meet the comments provided by the Commission at the previous review
