R.A. LONG PARK PLAZA RESTORATION DESIGN APPROVAL

SUMMARY STATEMENT:
On February 8, 2018, the City Council directed staff to pursue a preferred design concept selected by the Council for the R.A. Long Park Plaza Restoration project. The proposed project improvements include:
• Construct new upper and lower concrete plaza
• Construct ADA ramps on west side of plaza
• Construct gazebo
• Upgrade four park light standards
• Upgrade existing park electrical service
• Install two additional power receptacles in the lawn area
• Replace some of the defective concrete walkways in the park
The proposed design concepts were reviewed and approved by the Historic Preservation Commission, Parks and Recreation Board, Project Longview, and the donor providing funds for the gazebo. A Certificate of Appropriateness application has been submitted to the Historic Preservation Commission for approval.
The project is scheduled to open bids in late July, with construction scheduled to start in late August after the 2018 Squirrel Fest.
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
Project funding includes:
● Kuntz Family Trust = $400,000 ($100,000 allocated to replace defective walkways)
● State Capital Budget = $287,120
● Private donation = $75,000 (toward the gazebo)
● Capital Projects Fund = $44,000
● Total Funding = $806,120
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Motion to approve the proposed R.A. Long Park plaza project design and direct staff to complete the design and advertise for bids.
