APPROVE LETTER OF SUPPORT AND LOCAL MATCHING FUNDS FOR FY2018 FEDERAL TRANSIT ADMINISTRATION 5339 BUS AND BUS FACILITIES GRANT

SUMMARY STATEMENT:
The City of Longview is the Designated Federal Recipient of public transit funds. The City of Longview, in cooperation with the Cowlitz Transit Authority, is applying for the FY2018 Federal Transit Administration Bus and Bus Facilities Grant to purchase four (4) replacement coaches to replace vehicles that are currently past their useful life of 12 years.
This project supports the goals of the Transit Enhancement Plan and are supported in the regional long range transportation plan. To demonstrate local support for the project, the application requires documentation of local financial commitment and support. Staff is requesting the CTA approve a letter of support and adopt a resolution allocating local matching funds for the grant. It is anticipated that these vehicles will be delivered and paid for in late 2020 if the grant application is successful.
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
The estimated cost of the four transit coaches is $2,600,000. The grant requires a 20% local match; therefore the estimated match funds requested of the CTA is $520,000. These projects are included in the 2018 Transit Development Plan and there are adequate funds available in the Cowlitz Transit Authority Budget.

Motion to approve Resolution Number 2018-01 and authorize the Chair to sign a letter of support for the City of Longview 2018 Bus and Bus Facilities grant application.
