This quarter’s recipient is Jennifer Leach. Jennifer has spent the last 33 years working for the WSU Extension 4-H program, focusing on youth development and families in the statewide assignment for the 4-H State Equine Program. She also oversees the Strengthening Families program for Cowlitz County. One of Jennifer’s most meaningful endeavors includes her role with Youth After Hours, a joint effort of several agencies coming together to provide after school programming. This program received national recognition, including accolades from the National Recreation & Parks Association. (www.harliesangels.com) Jennifer DesArmo of Harlie’s Angels and her dedicated volunteers have been working hard to improve the lives of the community and specifically the lives of the teens at the Longview Center. Jennifer addressed the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board in October of 2017 and the Historic Preservation Board in November of 2017 to talk about the possibility of a project of this nature coming to Lake Sacajawea. At a Council Workshop on February 22, 2018, the Parks and Recreation Department presented the Harlie’s Hoops Project, a covered basketball court next to the Elk’s Memorial Building at Lake Sacajawea Park, for Council to approve of the project concept.
