Title
REVISIONS TO CITY'S TAXI REGULATIONS, AND ADOPTION OF PROVISIONS PERTAINING TO TRANSPORTATION NETWORK COMPANIES (TNC'S)
COUNCIL STRATEGIC INITIATIVE ADDRESSED:
Council Initiative: Enhance public safety & emergency response; strengthen economic conditions & create new opportunities; and improve transportation systems
CITY ATTORNEY REVIEW: REQUIRED
SUMMARY STATEMENT:
Longview has had taxi regulations in place since 1944. Regulations have expanded and become more complex since that time. The City’s current ordinance reflects extensive taxi regulation within a framework of safety. Given changes in the taxi business and the emergence of the transportation network company (TNC) business model with drivers for Uber and Lyft now operating in the area, it became apparent that the City’s current ordinance needed updating to protect the interests of the public. The proposed ordinance addresses TNCs and provides a regulatory system.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Schedule proposed code amendments for an upcoming City Council meeting
