2017 STATE LEGISLATIVE AGENDA

COUNCIL STRATEGIC INITIATIVE ADDRESSED:

Council Initiative:  ALL

CITY ATTORNEY REVIEW:  N/A

SUMMARY STATEMENT:

This workshop presentation and discussion is designed to represent a continuation of preparation for the 2017 legislative session and eventual adoption of the city’s agenda for that session.  Mark Brown and Jennifer Ziegler, the city’s state-level lobbyists, will make the presentation.  It will include information about what activities have occurred during the interim since the end of the 2016 session, items that council may eventually want to include on the city’s 2017 agenda, AWC’s preliminary issue priorities, and, if council is interested, potential impacts on cities having to do with a couple initiatives that will be on the November election ballot for voter consideration.

RECOMMENDED ACTION:

Council is requested to discuss whether and how to include selected items on the city’s agenda for 2017.  Recognizing that this workshop will be another step in a continuing process, other items and issues may be brought up for discussion during a workshop scheduled for December 1 prior to eventual adoption of the agenda later in December.
