CIRCLE OF WISDOM PARK PLACEMENT

The bronze sculpture called "Circle of Wisdom" by Jim Demetro is currently located at the Longview Library in the children's area.  The Library would like it removed and placed somewhere it can be better viewed as it is currently located on the floor.  The Longview Outdoor Gallery wanted it placed downtown on Commerce, but the height of the sculpture and width are not conducive to the sculpture bases that were newly erected downtown.  Because this is the same artist who created the Sacajawea statue at Lake Sacajawea and is a Native American Grandmother and child, the Visual Arts Commission recommended its placement at Lake Sacajawea Park.  The VAC proposed a large flat stone/boulder be placed near one of the gardens and the Circle of Wisdom be cemented into place.  The Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a recommendation for the placement of the sculpture Circle of Wisdom to be placed at Lake Sacajawea Park on the condition that it received a Certificate of Appropriateness from the Historic Preservation Commission.
