SUMMARY STATEMENT:
Jennifer DesArmo from Harlie’s Angels addressed the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board in October of 2017 and talk about her partnership with The Boulevard, Longview Parks and Recreation Teen Program. Harlie’s Angels is a non-profit organizations based on equipping and empowering teens to grow into God-love, responsible, caring, young adults through sports, service and fellowship. ) Jennifer and her volunteers have been working hard to improve the lives of the community and specifically the lives of the teens at the Longview Center.
At the October P&R Board Meeting, Jennifer announced her concept to gift a covered basketball court located next to the Elks Memorial Building by donating the time, services, and materials needed for installation. After talking with the teens, they wanted the ability to play court sports and run around outside year round and that is where Harlie’s Hoops dream was formed. The Board agreed that the concept had merit and supported the idea of the project knowing that Historic Preservation, City Council, City Staff, and the Community would need the opportunity to weigh in on the decision to approve the project.
Jennifer addressed the Historic Preservation Board in November of 2017 to discuss the concept of the basketball court against the approved Lake Sacajawea Preservation Plan. The plan does call for a tennis court in the area that Jennifer is providing and there was discussion regarding the addition of a “recreation element” to adjust for changing community needs. The Historic Preservation made a motion to agree with the concept and would need future involvement to provide a certificate of appropriateness. The board also...
