SUMMARY STATEMENT:
Hough, Beck, and Baird Inc. (HBB) from Seattle, entered into a professional services agreement with the City of Longview to execute a comprehensive athletic facility park master plan for Roy Morse Park.
In collaboration with City of Longview Parks & Recreation, HBB Landscape Architecture has developed a draft of the final master plan for developing an athletic facility complex at Roy Morse Park. The purpose of this workshop is to (1) present the design process so far, including site analysis, economic development analysis, and the public process; (2) review the current design of the park; and (3) receive feedback on the design, and direction for the final master plan and report.
City of Longview Parks & Recreation has been exploring upgrading Roy Morse Park to be a facility capable of holding regional tournaments for softball and baseball. HBB’s approach in partnering with Parks & Recreation has been to begin the design process with site analysis and community outreach.
Site and economic analyses were conducted to understand park context, current athletic programming, existing infrastructure, and environmental opportunities and constraints. Early community outreach, especially a staff workshop and site visit, informed our understanding of the existing park site and program.
The public outreach process continued with stakeholder interviews and surveys. These focused on developing the athletic program at the site.
